A Note to the Reader...

The story of Antonio and Mary Fernandez is fascinating, and it has been the longtime wish of their descendents to tell their story to future generations. It has been our great honor to help make that wish finally come true. Our family has compiled as much information about this pioneering family as we could, and we are proud to share it with you now. The Fernandez family has grown quite large in just a few generations in the new world, so the focus of this book is on the couple who brought our family to America across the great wide ocean from Portugal, and on the first generation of children they raised here. There are many family members responsible for this book ~ every person who took a photograph and passed it on, every person who ever told a story of the old days, every person who ever drew up a family tree ~ each of these people have helped create a rich family lore. Full credit cannot be given to all of these people, but we believe we can honor them best by recording what we know from the stories and photographs collected be the various branches of the family. We invite you take a step back in time and learn what it was like to live on Mound Key and in the little village of Estero, Florida in those pioneer days of so long ago.

Book Signing at Ted Smallwood Museum and Store November 19, 2011

On November 19, 2011, I had a wonderful opportunity to go to Chokoloskee, Florida for the first time with my husband to sell our family book.  It was a wonderful experience and I met some wonderful people while we were there.  The Ted Smallwood Museum and store is such a neat experience.  You could be there for hours and still not see everything there.  A small fee of $3.00 is collected at the door, but you will get more then your $3.00 back.  They have a wonderful collection of books available as well.  It is amazing and a wonderful ride down.  So much history being preserved!

Estero Historical Society ~ Speaking Engagement

Marlene and I spoke at the monthly meeting for the Estero Historical Society on October 10, 2011.  Our topic of discussion was our wonderful family book, "Beside The Still Waters".  It turned out to be a great engagement.  We had a power point presentation and we both worked well together considering it was our first time speaking together.  There was a mention of us in the Coastal Life paper letting everyone know of our talk.  We sold some more books while we were there!!  Yay!

Expressions Magazine ~ September 2011

I was lucky enough to have received an email from Cathy Chestnut over at WGCU which is located on the FGCU campus and she wanted to review our book.  The review can be read in this months edition of "Expressions" magazine for September 2011.  It is an absolutely beautiful layout and the review is awesome.  I was very, very pleased with the outcome.

In addition, to the review, the radio division decided to interview Tom Fernandez about the family and he can be heard on September 22, 2011 from 4-6:30 p.m. on FM channel 90.1/91.7.

Another order from the Lee County Library

We received another order from the Lee County Library System for Beside The Still Waters.  They have been adding copies slowly to keep a good circulation available for their patrons.  Keep checking it out!!!
